Hooray for my second Sikat Pinoy National Trade Fair!

Department of Trade and Industry, through Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion, and in cooperation with the DTI's Regional and Provincial Boards, is known to organize such gatherings to highlight how talented Filipinos are in terms of arts and craftsmanship. This year, another Trade Fair was arranged by the same department to showcase each distinct products of most provinces all over the Philippines.

Happening from 22nd to 26th of August at SM Megamall Megatrade Halls (5th Floor, Building B), this event will promote the products of about 250 MSME's around our country, and is free of admission.

As I've mentioned, this is actually my second time to witness this awesome event. And, indeed, I am still in awe of the locally made products made by talented Filipinos all over our country. Aside from that, I enjoyed talking to the entrepreneurs on how they started the business, how are they enjoying the event and many more stories they have brought fresh from their provinces. It is not actually just buying the product but knowing the story behind that product, that makes purchasing memorable and worth it.

Knowing each story makes me think that this is really a great event as this is one of the key programs to promote efficient marketing and distribution of local products and services, and it also expands linkages among MSME's through information exchanges and market matching.

That is why I was very happy to be part of this event's opening.

Now, here's the reason why I keep going back to this event:

Because through this event, I always see the beauty of every arts and crafts product made by our fellow Filipinos, and I learned how important it is to support local masterpieces as we surely can make undeniably world-class commodities.

Here are some of the stalls that you will see at the event:

My all in all experience is totally great! I would love to attend more Trade Fairs in the future! By the way, here's some food products from the event. Thank you Department of Trade and Industry for this wonderful experience. One of the best!

The 2018 Sikat Pinoy National Trade Fair will be held from August 22 to 26 at the Megatrade Halls of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

The products of about 250 MSMEs representing the best products from all regions of the country will be offered for retail sales to consumers and will also be available for order-taking from institutional buyers. These include products such as gifts, wearables, furniture, specialty food, and health and wellness products. Green, organic, eco-friendly, fair trade compliant, and halal-certified products will also be featured.

OTOP.PH

Supporting the DTI’s renewed focus on the One Town, One Product (OTOP) priority stimulus program, a model OTOP Philippines Hub or OTOP.PH will be showcased at the 2018 Sikat Pinoy National Trade Fair.
The OTOP Philippines Hub (OTOP.PH) is a retail store or space where One Town, One Product offerings can be found. Catering to the general mainstream market of both local buyers and tourists, these stores offer a general outlet for quality, transformed, and standards-compliant OTOP products. The OTOP Philippines Hub can be a redesigned pasalubong center showcasing mostly OTOP products from various regions. The hubs may be located in airports, terminals, pasalubong centers, tourist spots, Negosyo Centers, public markets, and other consumer-frequented locations, including malls.

For those interested in operating an OTOP.PH outlet, please email otop@dti.gov.ph or call +63 (2) 751 3307.

Raw Materials Showcase

To address the production needs of MSMEs, the Design Center of the Philippines will mount a special showcase of raw materials and semi-processed raw materials and their transformation into finished products. This special showcase aims to provide awareness of the wealth of Philippine indigenous raw materials and agricultural wastes and how their transformation creates: (1) a socio-cultural impact by shifting beliefs and attitudes towards locally made products; (2) an economic impact by providing value to materials that are usually burned or thrown away; and (3) an ecological impact by using sustainable materials and processes that are environment-friendly. With this showcase, DTI hopes to provide commercialization opportunities for converters, suppliers and manufacturers through the adoption of material manipulation techniques.

A supply chain solutions section will also feature suppliers of zippers, hardware for bags (e.g., locks, buckles, etc.), fibers, packaging materials, as well as printers for labels.

Leathercraft and Coffee

Adding color to the Sikat Pinoy National Trade Fair, differently-abled workers from Handcrafted by Harl’s will conduct a leathercrafts workshop where you can create your own wallet, coin purse, and other leather goods. Founded by Harley Dave Beltran, HHS Leathergoods Enterprises is a social enterprise that provides gainful employment to persons with disabilities.

The Kapetirya or coffee pavilion featuring choice local coffee blends has become an integral part of all Sikat Pinoy fairs.

Strengthening MSMEs

The 2018 Sikat Pinoy National Trade Fair is organized by the Department of Trade and Industry through the Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion (BDTP) in cooperation with the DTI’s Regional and Provincial Offices. It is one of the key programs to promote efficient marketing and distribution of local products and services;  expand and strengthen linkages among MSMEs through information exchanges and market matching; and to create awareness of domestic marketing opportunities for new projects, new technologies, and investments.

The 2018 Sikat Pinoy National Trade Fair is open during mall hours from August 22 to 26. Admission is free.

The 2018 Sikat Pinoy National Trade Fair will be held from August 22 to 26 at the Megatrade Halls of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

Since it was first launched as the brand for national domestic trade fairs in 2013, the yearly stagings of Sikat Pinoy fairs have gained a loyal following among Metro Manila consumers as well as institutional buyers who eagerly look forward to discovering the best products from the regions.

In the five-year period from 2013 to 2017, the Sikat Pinoy fairs have attracted nearly half-a-million visitors and generated almost P400 million in retail sales as well as booked and negotiated orders.
Sustaining the renewed focus on the One Town, One Product (OTOP) priority stimulus program, the 2018 edition of the Sikat Pinoy National Trade Fair will showcase OTOP Next Generation products such as gifts, houseware and decor, fashion accessories and wearables, furniture, specialty food, and health and wellness products. Highlighting the products of about 250 MSMEs representing the best products from 16 regions of the country, these will be offered for retail sales to consumers and will also be available for order-taking from institutional and corporate buyers.

Green, organic, eco-friendly, fair trade compliant, and halal-certified products will also be given their own special area, in response to the growing demand for sustainable consumer products.

To serve the needs of MSMEs to access reliable sources of good quality and affordable materials, a section will be devoted to supply chain solutions featuring: (1) raw materials such as yarns, threads, buttons, dyes, zippers, fibers and textiles; (2) intermediate goods like packaging materials, boxes, baskets, ribbons, straws, etc.; and (3) equipment and tools to improve productivity.

I know some of you might wonder what inspired and pushed me to do a personal blogging site. Well, as a matter of fact, I also wonder at times!

It all started when I and my friends started to render our internship with a personal blogger who already established a name in the online media industry. At first, it was just an idea for me to create a blog since I had a hard time thinking what the blog would contain and my free time was very limited since I was a graduating Journalism student back then.

Moving on, I decided to create a blog site using the free hosting site "WordPress" and then moved to "Blogspot" later on. I started writing book reviews because I am very fond of reading books, novels specifically. It was followed by articles about the events I was covering during my internship days.

It was a big turn around when blogging became my passion after I graduated, because back then, I only considered it as a pastime. There were times I used to spend most of my time writing blogs, consuming couple of hours customizing the layout of my site, and looking for ways to improve it further. And that time when I finally got a dotcom (.com) domain, I was the happiest girl on earth, because, finally, I had the chance to have my own URL!

Creating and having your own personal blog site is bit of a challenge, honestly. That  is why I have come up with this blog article to help you guys, in the best way that I can, when it comes to setting up your personal blog site.

Here are some tips that may help you in the future:

1. Know what exactly what you want your blog site to contain.

Having the theme of the blog is one of the most challenging part I had. I really don't know where I want my site to revolve, so I have decided to make a blog where I can write whatever I want and have a freestyle-themed blog site. As you can see, I have book reviews, personal travel experiences, events I joined, and press releases.

If you consider having a broad scope like mine, I highly suggest to make sure that it will be organized properly on your blogs, especially on the navigation part on the home of your site.

2. Don't force yourself to write when you are in the mood for writing.

Every one of us has the most convenient time when it comes to writing. As for myself, I like to write during wee hours or when I just feel to. You don't have to force something to come out your mind and to write when you are not in the mood. Why? Because you tend to be writing something just for the sake of having your blog up to date, rather than writing something to express yourself and letting people know about it.

3. Experiment on your blog site.

Tweaking is the key! Being experimental on the blogs when it comes to the layout and design is really a good habit. You will not know what you are capable of when you don't try it at all. As I've mentioned earlier, I used to dedicate most of my hours experimenting on the look of my blog site. I never knew I would learn basic codes tweaking (themes), editing raw photos (for articles), and exploring deeper settings of Blogspot to improve the appearance of my site. All learned just by myself.

You, as well, may learn something that you thought you can't do on your own. You just have to believe in yourself.

4. Never be afraid to share your online articles through your Social Media accounts.

I know that there will be times when you will feel shy posting your own work to your personal accounts such as Facebook and Twitter because you are afraid that your friends might see to it as a thing for them to judge you. Well, the purpose of blogging is to express, regardless of what other people will say.

Let them know about what you write and bear in mind that there will always be criticism everywhere, you just need to handle it accordingly. Don't be afraid to ask for comments and suggestions for your work or for your blog site in general. There will always be room for improvements, and getting it from your friends is a good start to know where specifically can you do the enhancement.

5. Join media events or any gatherings that may help you meet people with the same interest as yours.

Lastly, meet people who loves blogging too. You will learn a lot from them and they are all friendly. As a beginner myself, I joined groups for bloggers on Facebook and there I found helpful tips that,  indeed, helped me in creating mine.

There are also gatherings organized by media partners or fellow bloggers where you can meet a wide variety of bloggers and online influencers. You can take advantage of these events to help you get along with the people with the same interest as yours and who knows, one event may be the start of your blog's great shot.

If you reached this part of my article, I really thank you for taking some time to read my hope-it-was-helpful blog. It means a lot to me. If you are planning to create your own blog, go! Don't be afraid to take risk. You will never know where your blog site can bring you until you start building it.

If you are a blogger, you may also share below some tips for people who are thinking of starting their own blog sites. If you are one of them, you may also comment below any question or feedback and I will be glad to respond to them. Have a great day!
